We have all observed Congress and the Executive Branch act in ways that cause us to wonder, “Do these people really represent their constituents?” This site endeavors to ask questions that typically would be topics that could be raised via referendum and voted on directly by the public.
Do you know there is no mechanism for referendum at the Federal level provided for by the Constitution of the United States? As we examined unresolved issues across the United States that many people seem to agree on, we were compelled to ask why these issues remain unresolved. Term limits in Congress… Immigration Reform… Voter ID in Federal Elections… These are commonly referred to as “80-20 issues” and that’s our target at realreferendum.org. One would think since Congress has not addressed these issues in the past 50 years that maybe We the People could take up these matters and bring them to a vote. Short of that, our goal is to collect and report on these “80-20 issues” and bring these issues to the forefront of the American consciousness.
In the coming months, we will build out this site so we can collect public opinion on these issues. We will attempt to gather a body of data that can eventually be presented to decision makers. Our goal is to help shed light on the disconnect between We the People and those charged with representing us. Stay Tuned.
